Manual Therapy in Voice/Swallowing Disorders: Hands-On Online Course (1)

Manual Therapy in Voice/Swallowing Disorders: Hands-On Online Course (1)

NOTE: ONLY PURCHASE THIS COURSE IF YOU HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED AND COMPLETED THE INTRODUCTION TO THE EVIDENCE AND APPROACH COURSE. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN YOU BEING UNENROLLED IN THIS COURSE.

The Course

With the exception of the Introductory material, this online course mirrors the full, in-person Foundations in Manual Therapy: Voice and Swallowing Disorders Seminar. With a target audience being SLPs/SLTs, Vocal Professionals, and PTs, OTs, and MTs with interest in this area, this course reflects the most current views on manual therapy impacts. Using a style of manual therapy characterized by longer duration static stretching and is an approach well supported in the evidence. This course takes the learner through the hands-on aspects of this manual therapy intervention in a manner firmly entrenched in a biopsychosocial framework.

The course follows a progression of learning through the lower and upper thoracic wall, cervical and laryngeal region, sublingual, moth, and jaw region, as well as variations on techniques in this area. The hands-on course was filmed in front of a live audience and includes lecture, demonstrations, and moving through lab-style learning. Also included are videos filmed in the studio to supplement learning. If you are looking to deepen your model and understanding, I believe you will be pleased with this course.

0.6 ASHA CEUs approved, as well as 6.0 NCBTMB (including for NY MTs) Home Study CEs. PTs and OTs who are able to self-submit to their state licensing board will find the necessary supporting documentation in the downloads.

The Cost

The fee for this online course is $140 and is only intended for use by those who have already purchased the 2-hour online Introductory Course. The content of this course represents the last decade of work for me, moving from the tissue-based narratives previously taught and into more plausible, though initially more confusing, concepts of neuroscience, behavioral science, and pain science. If you are seeking a fresh and solid grounding in how to move your manual therapy model into alignment with current viewpoints of medicine and health, I believe that you will feel your money and time was well spent.

Course Description (ASHA)

The clinician learned to apply the techniques of manual therapy as a multifactorial method of impacting issues of voice and swallowing. By using a biopsychosocial approach, the SLP understood how a patient-led model optimizes clinical outcomes. Through lecture and demonstration videos, the SLP saw how theory flows into practice and was given opportunity to practice with a partner.
