We record a good amount of video at each live Foundations in Manual Therapy: Voice and Swallowing Disorders class, including myself, training the clinicians who act as teaching assistants. When I mention the apparent asymmetry of her anterior transverse processes, notice the variation in the SCM landscape. Is asymmetry a problem, the “cause,” or is it simply a variation of normal. I opt for the latter (Bunnell, 1993).

Manual therapy is traditionally an operator-based intervention, where the clinician is the expert in treating patients with what they feel best. My approach is different, where the patient shares all decisions, including deciding what feels relevant, safe, helpful, or worthless.

This video is not intended for use by none other than licensed health professionals who’ve been properly trained in this method and is intended for educational purposes only.
