The hyoid. Must we work so aggressively?

Manual interventions to the anterior neck take many forms. My early training taught us to grasp the hyoid at the posterior aspect to check alignment and “freedom.” Though never told to squeeze, when I received this work from other students and later, as part of treatment, the grip around the hyoid felt aggressive. Then, I was exposed to a video of a freshly dissected hyoid bone being gently squeezed from the posterior aspect and witnessed a caving-in of bone along what appeared to be small joints. Later, I located a 2016 paper by Fisher et al. that gave insight into hyoid fusion. You can find a link to the full-text paper at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4859847/. Questions?
