The feeling of a voice (or any other) issue
What does it FEEL like?
-The Feeling of a Voice Issue
The approach used in my Foundations in Manual Therapy: Voice and Swallowing Disorders requires a bit of a different framing of the issue. Traditionally problems, be they voice, swallowing, or a variety of other issues facing the SLP and Voice Professional, rely on evaluation methods on the part of the professional to come up with the treatment plan. While that is without a doubt effective and impactful, in the way that I teach and treat I turn the tables, requiring my patient/client to get in touch with the full nature of the feeling of their issue. It takes time, sometimes, for them to move into that feeling, though once they are aware of what it is that I am seeking they are typically more willing explorers.
Armed with that sense of feeling we can better access those sensations during the intervention, making them a partner throughout the treatment process.
This was filmed at a recent edition of my Foundations in Manual Therapy: Voice and Swallowing Disorders. I teach this seminar to speech-language pathologists/therapists, voice professionals, massage/physical/occupational therapists, and ENTs around the world.
