Kicking the Pebble is a oft-used metaphor for starting a change in behavior or action. I was reminded of this through an excellent blog post by Doug O’Brien, which was sent to my friend Kathy Silva-Tanguay. Kathy is an advanced Myofascial Release Therapist practicing on Cape Cod. This metaphor is effectively used to describe many instances of change in the world and is often used within our world of Myofascial Release.
Though used by some who feel it is unique to their line of training, we find it an apt descriptor for a small group of highly experienced MFR therapists who saw limitations in the current mindset. A pebble is being kicked (repeatedly) within our therapy world. The Facebook group, Myofascial Release Forum: An OPEN MINDED exchange of information, is a rapidly growing group of therapists with an interest in Myofascial Release. Many are seasoned therapists, with training from many different sources. Others are new to MFR, with no formal training. Some are expatriates from various schools of training. What binds us together is an interest in an open, free exchange of information relating to both MFR, but also other great treatment modalities. Benita Gettel, Marion McCall, Kathy Silva-Tanguay, Patti Schippani, and myself (at times referred to as the Birds of a Feather), formed this group to offer an alternative to forums who heavily censor the content which is allowed to be posted.
If you are new to Myofascial Release, please consider joining the group. If you are an experienced MFR therapist, see what there is for you there. On the Facebook Myofascial Release Forum, it is perfectly acceptable to question some of the science and logic behind what we do. Joining is easy, just follow this link:
