3 More Questions on how to explain an approach such as this

I’ve added to the 21 Questions YouTube playlist with three questions all revolving around the same theme. What to tell others, and oneself, about an approach such as the one I use and teach.

“Now to the hardest of the latest three questions. We’ve covered what to tell patients and colleagues, but what do we say to ourselves? I vividly remember my internal chatter for the decades when I fully believed the fascia narrative. I could visualize fascial restrictions and could feel them melt and unwind. Anyone who told me different was simply ill-informed. And then I stopped believing. Why I changed from believing in the fascia narrative is well-documented elsewhere, but suffice to say I saw the issues with locking one’s beliefs in one tissue and into an explanatory narrative that few outside the MFR rabbit hole of therapists even believe to be true. However, when we touch, people feel better. It seems to matter little whether we work wet or dry, statically or with movement, or work in silence or with conversation. These apparent wide disparities in the application would give credence to explanations that technique matters less than engagement alone. I’ve long ago stopped treating the tissues and now treat the person. We all love stories and I’m sure many of you can think of many stories to describe why people get better with manual therapy. My story is simple; while I’m uncertain exactly what happened and if the impact to your body is local (at the tissue level) or more central (via the nervous system), what matters most to me is if the work I am doing feels like it might be helpful.” (From Question 24)
